Assistant Professor, focus in population health and big data
The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is recruiting a position at the Assistant Professor level with a focus in population health and big data. We invite applications from candidates with strengths in epidemiology, big data (e.g. EMR data), health econometrics, machine learning, data science, and biostatistics. The role will have an emphasis on statistical analysis of large administrative, claims, registry or electronic medical record datasets, implementation and dissemination research, or learning health systems. Significant experience with advanced biostatistic methods is required. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent program of research as well as actively collaborate and provide statistical expertise to faculty and residents within the Department. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in teaching activities.
The applicant should have experience analyzing population health data using statistical software such as SAS, Stata, TreeAge or R.
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in data science area, epidemiology, population health, or related discipline
- Recognition or promise of outstanding contributions as a scholar
Preferred Qualifications:
- Must have advanced skills in computer programming and data management with software such as SAS, Stata, R, Hadoop, and TreeAge
- Experience working with complex datasets (e.g. NHANES)
- Plan and conduct independent research; write and publish peer-reviewed manuscripts
